What do you do when you fall and become injured? You have a small cut on your finger or leg, as first aid treatment, if the injury is minor, you use a Ban Aid and apply it to your injury. Do you know who invented this useful medical item which has been benefitting millions of people on the earth? His name was Earle Dickson. He was an American and this invention was made in the United States of America – the land of great people.
Earle Dickson remained worried about his wife – Josephine. She was very careless and often cut her fingers during chopping vegetables. Earle Dickson worked for Johnson & Johnson. This company manufacture bandages. Dickson was worried that Josephine would cut her fingers and hurt herself.
“What will be happened if she cut her finger in my absence? Who will help her to tie the bandage?”  Earle often thought. In those days, there was no plastic bandage. People use a bandage made of cloth which needs other people’s help to wrap over the injury. He decided to invent something which would be helpful to provide first aid treatment without any assistance. He remained busy in finding out the way to solve this issue. One day after much thinking, he thought a way which could solve it.
He used tapes to make the bandage. Between two layers of plastic tapes, he put squares bits of gauzes. Then he cut the long tapes into small pieces. He named these small pieces “Band-Aids”. He kept these “Band-Aids” at his home. Whenever the fingers of his wife cut, she opened the tapes and applied its once side without taking the help of another. Soon a few people in the factory head about. This was a marvelous idea. So the company started to manufacture it for the common people also. How the story of “Band-Aids” started. Now it has been making throughout the world. It is among the most sold medical items. Kids, adult an even the old aged use it. It is the most important and beneficial invention, especially kids who got frequent injuries during their playtime.
