A Hole in the Fence
Bed Time Stories for Kids
Short Stories with Moral
A long time ago, there lived a family consisted of 3 members, husband, wife, and their young son. Unfortunately, their son had bad tempers, which made the parents very depressed. The boy very soon lost control and used to get angry. Often he passed insulting remarks which hurt others. On being angry, he beats kids, scolded elders and neighbors. Everyone tried to avoid him. This situation was very embracing for his parents. On many occasions, both the husband and wife tried to make him realize that it’s not good and he should control over his anger. All the pieces of advice remained fruitless and the boy always turned a deaf ear. Entire the attempts to turn their son kind and keep moral attitude failed. At last, hit upon a plan which could prove beneficial to make the son civilized.
His father gave him a bag full of nails and asked his son to hammer one nail to the fence each time, he got angry and lost his temperament. This was an amusing activity for the boy and he accepted the task happily.
Each moment when he lost his temperament, he rushed to the fence and hammered a nail. He hammered 30 nails on the first day! In the next few days, the number of nails was reduced to half. The boy found it really a herculean task to hammer the nails and decided to take control over his anger. With the passage of time, the hammered nails to the fence were reduced and a day came when there was no nail to be hammered! The boy did not lose his temper throughout the day. For the next many days, he did not lose control and did not hammer any nail.
Now the father asked him his son to remove the nails whenever the boy controlled his anger. Many days passed away and the boy pulled out most of the nails from the fence. In spite of pulling many nails, a few nails remained that could not be pulled out. The son told his father who praised his son and asked him pointing to a hole, “What is this? My dear son.”
“It’s a hole in the fence!” Answered the boy.
“What is the lesson you have?” Asked the father.
“I do not know?” Replied the boy.
“The nails depict your bad temper, which were hammered on people. Nails can be removed but the holes always remain. You have seen that the fence will never look the same and has scars all over. Some nails cannot be pulled out. The same situation is with your loss of your temperament and anger. When you stab someone by using a knife, say sorry later, the wound will heal but its sign will remain there forever. Your anger and harsh and words were just like this. Words impact and harm is more painful than physical torcher. Think before you speak. These are just like arrows which cannot be returned back. Use words for making happy relationships”. Advised the father.
