“I have purchased this well, When why are you objection to utilizing its water”? Asked the farmer.
“I have sold the well, not its water”. Replied the friend. So you cannot use its water.
The farmer was astonished at his answer. He could not understand what to do? Someone asked him to go to Emperor Akbar – the Great Mughal Ruler of Hindustan.
The farmer went to Akber and told him all the event, Akber was also surprised as it seemed difficult. He called Birbal who was Akber’s Minister. Birbal was a very wise man and among one of the nine courtiers of Emperor. The Birbal requested the king to call both the parties.
Birbal asked, “Why you are not letting the farmer draw water from the well”? He had purchased the well and had full ownership. The clever man replied the same answer again. “I sold the well, not the water. So farmer ha not right over the water. He can use the well, not its eater.
Birbal replied, “You are all right”. You have sold the well, then you have no right to put your water in the well, which you have sold”. So immediately remove the water or use it all. You have no right to put your belonging in such a place which is owned by someone else.
The cunning man had no answer to this objection. He realized that he’s been tricked. He apologized to the farmer and left away.
