Mahatma Gandhi, respected as the father of India, was an extremely exceptional individual. The accompanying story outlines one reason for him to be called 'Mahatma' (Extraordinary Soul).
When Gandhi was on a campaign to gather reserves from different urban areas and towns for an organization to help poor people. He went to a few cities and lastly reached Orissa – a city in India. He organized a meeting in Orissa.
There, he made a speech to the people and asked them for charity. At the end of his speech, an extremely old lady with bowed back, worn out apparel, white hair, and shrunken skin got up. She asked for the volunteers to enable her to achieve Gandhi. The volunteers halted her. She didn't surrender, quarreled and finally reached to Gandhi.
She touched the feet of Gandhi and took out a copper coin kept in the folds of her saree, She put this coin in his feet.
Gandhi deliberately took the coin. The treasurer of the organization approached Gandhi for the copper coin, yet he declined to give it.
"I keep checks worth a large number of rupees," said the treasurer. "However you won't trust me with a copper coin!"
Gandhi stated, "This copper coin is worth substantially more than those thousands. On the off chance that a man has a few lakhs and he gives away a thousand or two, it doesn't mean much."
Truly, the coin may have been the main thing that the poor old lady had. She didn't have legitimate garments and couldn't manage the cost of good nourishment. Still, she gave all that she had. That is the reason Gandhi viewed the coin as valuable.
