Sudama was bigger and arranged his bread through alms given by people. He went to each door and asked for alms. It was then a custom that people respect Brahmin and thought that to give something in charity to a Brahim would bring prosperity for them.
For many days, Sudama could not find anything as alms. There was nothing to eat. Sudama wife suggested him to go to Lord Krishna and ask for help. Sudama was reluctant to ask the favor but he had not an alternative. He could not see the suffering of his children, It forced him to go to Krishna and asked for help.
His wife borrowed some rice from one of her neighbors and cooked it for Krishna as Krishna liked rice. Sudama took the cooked rice and started his journey to Dwaraka – the capital of Lord Krishna. He was astonished to see the abundance of gold used to build the city. When he reached the palace, the guards stopped him and did not allow him to enter. Sudama was wearing torn dhoti and kurta and his appearance was extremely adverse.
Sudama told the soldiers that he was a friend of Lord Krishan by childhood and they used to play to gather. But the soldiers did not believe and started to cut jokes at him. Sudama implored the guards to at least inform the king that Sudama wanted to meet him.

Krishan asked him to give him the rice which was cooked by his wife and Sudama brought with him as a gift. Krishan took the bowl and ate the rice with great enjoyment.
Krishna and his friend spent the rest of time laughing and talking about their past. Sudama did not expect such an excellent treatment from Krishan. Overwhelmed by the lord of greatness and his humbleness, Sudama had not the heart to ask Krishna for help and returned back without asking anything. When Sudama returned home, he found there was a beautiful house. His cottages had been replaced by a marvelous mansion.
